Microsoft Works Plus 2008 Features

Microsoft Works Plus 2008 (Microsoft Works version 9.0) is an economical way to get a word processor, spread sheet, database, slide show viewer and calendar application at a fraction of the cost of the Microsoft Office suite. Microsoft Works provides users with the tools to manage household tasks, create to-do lists and organize busy schedules. Microsoft Works Plus 2008 was the first Works application released that is fully compatible with Windows Vista. Additionally, Microsoft Works is also compatible with Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Windows XP.


Word Processor


The Works word processor allows the user to easily create documents, resumes, letters and greeting cards. It also has a built in dictionary. The buttons and menu layout are similar in appearance to Microsoft Word 2003. Some features include text formatting, insertion of a spreadsheet, and the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word 2007 documents. Works provides users with 36 project templates such as event flyers, cover letters, menus and invitations.


Spreadsheet


The Works spreadsheet provides users with the tools to create lists, budgets and basic formulas. Some advanced features include creation of conditional formulas, sorting data and the ability create and display charts. As with the word processor, the spreadsheet is also compatible with Microsoft Office 2007 files. Additionally, the application is capable of creating spreadsheets with 16,384 rows and 256 columns.


Database


The Works database program can be used to store addresses, lists and home inventory. Text files can also be imported in the database application. Users can create tables, design forms and print reports.


PowerPoint Viewer


Works offers a PowerPoint viewer application that allows users to view PowerPoint files. Files are read only and cannot be edited. However, users can view PowerPoint slide show presentations.


Calendar


The calendar application in Works allows each member of the household the ability to create their own personal calendar. Up to 32 of these calendar can then be viewed in one window. This feature allows users to keep track of everyone's schedule at one time. Additionally, recurring appointments can be set with weekly or daily reminders.


Task Launcher


The task launcher is the central hub of the Works program. The majority of the Works applications can be accessed through the task launcher. From the task launcher users can view upcoming appointments, access their calendar and open recently used documents. Additionally, all of the templates for each application can be accessed here.
