Reinstall An Asio Driver

Audio Stream Input/Output (ASIO) is a driver protocol designed to allow software to communicate with a computer's sound card or audio device. ASIO drivers bypass Windows audio mixing kernels so that applications can access the sound card with a lower latency, providing a higher-quality audio sample for the hardware. Although there are a number of different ASIO driver providers, you can uninstall and reinstall all ASIO drivers using the same basic method.

Instructions

Uninstall the Original Driver

1. Click on the "Start" menu in the lower-left corner of your desktop and select "Control Panel."

2. Click "Uninstall a program."

3. Search through the list of currently installed programs for the ASIO driver. Click on it and click the "Uninstall/Change" button.

4. Select "OK" to uninstall the original driver. Restart the computer.

Reinstall the Driver

5. Insert the CD that came with the audio device the driver is used with. If the CD is lost or it didn't come with the audio device, you will need to download the driver. Navigate to the manufacturer's website and follow the instructions to download the file necessary for new driver installation.

6. Navigate to the executable file that contains the necessary ASIO driver. The file will be named the same as the driver, but will have ".exe" as a file extension. For drivers on a CD, click "Start," click "Computer," then right-click on the CD drive and choose "Explore" to be able to navigate through the CD's files. If the file was downloaded, simply navigate to the folder that the file was saved in.

7. Double-click on the executable file to install the driver. Follow the instructions given with the driver installation software.

8. Restart the computer.
