AT&T Wireless, like most global system for mobile communications (GSM) companies, blocks its handsets from recognizing other subscriber identity module (SIM) cards. This prevents handsets such as the LG CG225 from accessing other GSM networks. AT&T Wireless offers the unlock code to its handsets for customers who have accounts older than a few months in good standing. It's just a matter of requesting it from customer service.
Instructions
1. Turn on your LG CG225. Dial *#06# and write down the 15-digit international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) number that appears.
2. Contact AT&T Wireless customer service to request the SIM unlock code for your LG CG225. Give the representative your IMEI number and your email address to send the unlock code to you.
3. Turn off your LG CG225 after you receive your unlock code by email. Slide the battery cover down the back of the handset and lift the battery out. Slide the AT&T Wireless SIM card out and replace it with a SIM card from another company. Replace the battery and the battery panel. Turn the LG CG225 back on.
4. Click through the error message that tells you the SIM card is not compatible with your handset. Enter the unlock code on the next screen and click "OK." Use your LG CG225 as desired.
