Use An At&T Sim On A Nokia 6086

The Nokia 6086 is a cell phone that is factory set to be supported by T-Mobile phone service. In order to use the Nokia 6086 with a SIM card from an aother wireless phone service provider, such as AT&T, the phone has to be unlocked. SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module. A SIM card is a portable memory chip that stores such information as your cell phone number with your wireless phone service provider and phone book. Transferring an AT&T SIM card to a Nokia 6086 allows you to use AT&T's wireless service on a phone originally set up for T-Mobile.

Instructions

1. Turn off the Nokia 6086 and disconnect the phone from its charger (if applicable). Firmly push down on the battery cover located on the back of the phone, then slide the cover down to release it. Lift the battery cover off the phone. Remove the phone's battery.

2. Open the SIM card cover located inside the Nokia 6086's battery compartment and remove the current SIM card. Also, write down the phone's 15 digit IMEI number, which is printed on a label located inside the Nokia 6086's battery compartment.

3. Use the IMEI number of your particular Nokia 6086 mobile phone to discover the phone's unlock code. If you are a T-Mobile account holder, you can contact T-Mobile customer support to obtain the phone's unlock code. If you're not a T-Mobile account holder, there are many resources available online that can assist you in obtaining the unlock code required for your phone. Many of these resources charge a fee, but there are also a few free unlock code services available online. (See Resources.) You'll need to supply the service with the phone's make and model (Nokia 6086), its IMEI number, service provider (which, in the U.S., is generally T-Mobile for Nokia 6086 phones), and the country you live in.

4. Insert the AT&T SIM card into the Nokia 6086's SIM card holder. Make sure the gold contacts on the SIM card meet the gold contacts inside the SIM card compartment. Close the SIM card cover.

5. Reinstall the phone's battery. The gold contacts on the battery must be in contact with the gold contacts inside the phone. Make sure the battery snaps fully into place. Put the battery cover back on.

6. Turn on the Nokia 6086. With the foreign SIM card inserted, the phone's display will read "Phone Restricted." Select "OK." You'll be prompted to "Enter restriction code."

7. Press "#." Enter "***" (which equals P). Enter "****" (which equals W). Enter "**" (which equal +).

8. Enter the unlock code.

9. Enter "**." Press "1." Press "#." Select "OK." The phone's display should now read "SIM Restriction Off." You can now use the Nokia 6086 with the AT&T SIM card.
