Still Activate A Samsung Omnia On Pageplus

As a Global System for Mobile Communication device, better known as GSM, the Samsung i900 Omnia phone is not compatible with Code Division Multiple Access wireless service providers such as PagePlus. But because you can't activate the Omnia on PagePlus doesn't mean you can't activate it with another wireless service provider.

Carriers

At the time of publication, T-Mobile and AT&T are the only national carriers to operate GSM networks, making them compatible with the Samsung Omnia mobile phone. You can also activate the Omnia with a variety of regional wireless service providers that offer GSM services, such as SunCom. CDMA carriers, such as PagePlus, only support phones that are equipped with CDMA technology. Similarly, you cannot activate a CDMA phone with a GSM wireless service provider.

GSM

The Samsung Omnia's Subscriber Identity Module card slot is the most obvious feature that indicates the phone is not compatible with and cannot be activated with PagePlus. All GSM phones come with a card slot that must contain a SIM card to work on a GSM carrier's network. SIM cards contain and provide carriers with information that identifies the phone to the carrier, which in turn gives the phone access to its network. CDMA carriers also require this information, but CDMA phones store the data needed to gain access internally.

Omnia Features

The Samsung i900 Omnia hit the market in July 2008 and comes with a variety of cellular features, including multiple-network connectivity, a built-in digital camera and a GPS application. The Omnia's camera is capable of geotagging, a process that embeds map and GPS coordinates into each picture taken by the phone. This feature is useful if you want to return to the precise location of a previously taken picture or are unsure of your exact location. The phone's GPS application uses assisted-GPS technology which combines satellite and cellular tower signals to provide navigational functionality.

Considerations

PagePlus offers a variety of phones with its services, so if you're in an area where the carrier is your best option, purchase one of their phones for these benefits. PagePlus is a prepaid wireless service provider, so its phone selection is limited and, unlike national carriers, does not include discounted phones that are often offered in conjunction with long-term service commitments. Prepaid service providers do not run credit checks and are ideal for young users, such as teenagers, who are learning budget both time and money.
