Unlock My Telstra Nokia Phone

Telstra, headquartered in Melbourne, is the largest provider of mobile services in Australia. In addition to providing cellular service, provides Internet, landlines, and pay-per-view as well. If you purchased your Nokia phone through the company then it is likely locked to Telstra. Many phone companies do this in order to prevent their customers from leaving. If you have completed your contract and would like to change mobile carriers then you can get a code to unlock your Nokia phone. It is legal to unlock your phone, but if you haven't completed your contract be aware that you may pay a penalty.

Instructions

1. Get the IMEI (international mobile equipment identification) code from your Nokia phone. Do this by dialing *#06# into your phone. A 15 to 17 digit number will appear. Write this down.

2. Go to a website that will sell you mobile unlock codes for Telstra. Three that you can consider using are TradeUnlock, UnlockingCodesForPhones, and TheTravelInsider (see resource links). As of 2010, codes cost from $5 to $35.

3. Go to the website that you are interested in purchasing your codes from and select Nokia for the make of the phone and find the model. Then enter the IMEI number along with your e-mail address.

4. Enter your payment details. Most of these sites will accept Visa, MasterCard and PayPal.

5. Wait for one or two days for the code to show up in your e-mail. When you receive it write it down exactly as you see it.

6. Turn off the Nokia phone and take out the battery. Remove the SIM card and replace it one with a different SIM card from another mobile carrier. This can be from Australia or anyplace else in the world. Turn the phone back on. You will be asked to "Enter Special Code."

7. Type in the unlock code that you received in your e-mail. Click "OK," and wait for the phone to restart. When it comes back on the phone will be unlocked. Verify this by checking to see if the name of the new network is at the top of the phone. If it isn't you will have to contact the code provider for a new code.
