Repair The Display On A Compaq Presario R3000

A full screen replacement for your Compaq may be necessary.

Repairing the Compaq Presario R3000's diplay may be intimidating to some who are not acclimated with computer repair. However, you do not need to have a working knowledge of how displays operate or how Compaq's are put together in order to correct various issues with your screen. As long as you have a Phillips head screwdriver and potentially a replacement LCD screen at the ready, you are properly armed to complete this task in your home or office.

Instructions

1. Observe the monitor brightness settings of the Compaq Presario R3000. Ensure they were not turned all the way down. Monitor brightness keys can be found on the top of the Compaq's keyboard.

2. Check to see if the "LCD Closed Switch" has become stuck in place. This switch is roughly the size of a small pin and acts as a sensor that judges whether the Presario is open or closed, and then turns the backlight on or off accordingly. It may have become stuck in the "closed" position, so locate it on the bottom of the Compaq Presario R3000's left monitor hinge and tap it vigorously to un-stick it.

3. Remove the Compaq Presario R3000's monitor's bezel screws using a Phillips head screwdriver. These screws are along its far outer perimeter. Place them aside and then remove the bezel itself, which is the plastic border around the display.

4. Locate the inverter cable at the bottom center of the display now that it has been revealed by the bezel. Ensure that is has not become disconnected from the cable connector directly beside it. If it has, place it back into this connector and then snap it into the locked position (the connector should be horizontal and not vertical in orientation).

5. Remove the metal brackets on the side of the display if the inverter cable does not resolve the Compaq Presario R3000's display issues. You likely have to replace the screen altogether. There are two screws in each of these brackets-remove the screws with the Phillips head screwdriver.

6. Disconnect the inverter cable if it still remains plugged in.

7. Pull the screen gently away from the back casing of the Compaq Presario R3000 and lift it out. Set it on a flat surface.

8. Put a new laptop LCD screen gently in its place, resting against the back of the Compaq Presario R3000's case. Replace the metal brackets.

9. Reconnect the inverter cable.

10. Slide the bezel back over the display and replace the screws.
